mmm if I could I would live in Sweden and work on the migration office or at some social institution or I would move around from country to country and have different jobs :) now that would be a combination of 2 things I like: travelling and learning new things

when it comes to roles I would like to play I would love to play the role of "the bride" in Kill Bill :P or the role played by Catarina Furtado in "Pesadelo cor de rosa" (portuguese film)

Living in a block of 6 flats, we have come to know so many neighbours just via bumping into them. But nothing happens on a social level so to speak.
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009

Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Shorty on January 11, 2009, 12:17:18 PM
i know a couple and the reason is 3 things:
1. street barbeque
2. my parents talk to everyone easily and thus i get to know the names 2 and i helped some with pc stuff lol
3. there are a couple of old neighbours from our previous street so we've known them for a long time :P, the best one now lives next to us instead of 4 houses apart XD (was a 6 house street :P)
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Anokas_Ritolas on January 11, 2009, 02:30:19 PM
I only find my neighbours on the elevator and we make a short and simple conversation. I normally call it "elevator conversations". Beyond that I don't see them often.

This is a sign on how things are changing and how human beings are evoluting ... it's akward because years ago everyone got along with their neighbours and there was always a friendship with the neighbours and now we're all isolated even though we live like few steps away from each other ... makes you want to think doesn't it?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Gertie on January 11, 2009, 03:06:00 PM
From the 10 appartments here, I only know four of my neighbours by name. One of them is my brother, so that doesn't count  but I talk to all my neighbours when I see them, altho it's usually nothing more than just hello or have a nice day.

i used to know everyone in the street in which i grew up and there were quite a lot of gatherings etc, so it was all very friendly. where i live now i know the names of most neighbours, but apart from 'hi how are you' there's not much interaction

Question for Tuesday 13th January

If you had the money, would you prefer to send your children to private school, if so why?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Baggy on January 13, 2009, 11:26:40 AM
oooh good question , York has 2 of the best private schools in the UK naimly The Mount school for girls & St peters which was just for boys & where Guy Fawlkes went till a couple of years ago when they changed to let girls in too . I know a few who have gone to both schools & done very well for themselves career wize , yet I know others who went to mainstream schools and did just as well
I dont know whether I would send my kids to private school or not to be honest , if I had to make a choice now I'd probably say yes .. just to give them the best chance of having good opportunities to choose from when they left school with hopefully good results

What is the one thing you really want to achieve/do this year ?

Buy a different house, fix ours up, rent it out or rent it to own to someone, get my health in order.  I've got some tests yet to do, but $600 hospital copay is a wee bit ridiculous.  I'd rather go to the emergency room, $100 copay & have the stuff done LOL.

Question for Wednesday, 28th January 2009

Does it sometimes happen to you that you act one way when actually you feel completely different?
For example, something makes you very sad, but instead of letting others see that, you get angry or mad so they dont notice?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Shorty on January 28, 2009, 10:21:30 AM
yep most of the time in my case. I usually prefer people not to know stuff so i'm acting all cool while actually not feeling so good. Like now actually, my back irritates and hurts and i'm cold. But as long as i'm not sitting in tears cause of pain there's no need to show it, they can't do anything about it so why bother. Or atleast, those are my thoughts XD

Sad is usually harder to hide but most of the times thats ok 2, making things better cause ppl wont keep asking whats wrong  :)

Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Gertie on January 28, 2009, 06:22:01 PM
It depends, because at work I have to pretend when customers are really pushing my buttons but I can't show any of my emotions (which hardly ever really works but that aside)... Personally I find it difficult to confront people when their actions hurt me. I rather keep the peace, so therefor I hide my feelings... Am trying to change that tho

Question for Tuesday, 3rd February 2009

I hear there's a lot of snow in the UK at the moment, actually too much for some airports etc, and we had a lot of snow here as well, so... What do you love about snow? What do you hate about it?

SNOOWWW its white, flaky, can be molded into shapes ^^ and its cold.
Downside would be if u'd have to work and go by car or bike, thats rather dangerous i bet, i wouldnt know seeing i always loved balancing my bike when going trough snow XD Wind is much more treaturas.

Hope we'll get decent snow in my town this year but i doubt it, maybe next year, maybe in 6 years the channels freeze up again :D w000

Question for Wednesday February 11th 2009

Saturdat it's Valentine's Day. The last few years it's become more and more of a commercial holiday, with stores trying to make a few quick bucks.

What do you think about this?
Do you guys have any plans for Valentine's Day or don't you celebrate it?

If I had a bf I would celebrate it by going somewhere different or doing something different, wouldn't want/need any gifts. However, I'm single and instead of celebrating valentines I might celebrate anti-valentines ... a day to celebrate and enjoy my singleness with other single people :P

Question for Tuesday March 10 2009

What's the most you have eaten in any one sitting?

There's restaurants here that feature RodÝzio.  Basically, waiters walk around with HUGE skewers of meat & slice it off right on to your plate.  I swear, I ate more meat than I had in a weeks time in ONE sitting.  It was fabulous though :)

I do have a six-pack, I just lack the plastic thingy that keeps all the cans in one place.

Question for Friday, 17th April 2009

If someone stops you while you're around town and asks if you would participate in a survey they're doing - do you stop and answer their questions or (politely?) decline?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Anokas_Ritolas on April 17, 2009, 10:12:57 AM
mmmm i normally decline because the last time i answered one it took a long time and most of the surveys are market studies for certain enterprises ... they also do that over the phone and it's quite annoying.
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Mojopin on April 17, 2009, 10:45:39 AM
The last time I stopped, I was accosted by two american Mormans who spoke to me for around 10 mins about how Jesus went to Utah for a couple of years before he returned to his homeland to die.

Since then I have never stopped!
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Shorty on April 17, 2009, 11:15:02 AM
lol rita and mojo

if they would ever ask me, i'd decline XD but that will take another 4 years before they do... i look like 14 year old rocker scum when i head to town XD So i'm lucky that way lol

hmm...did get asked however if i was interested in some kinda product (just now remember that)...i agreed to the product only to cancel it right away when i got home...dude was lying to me XD so never again...

Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Gertie on April 25, 2009, 04:28:18 PM
That would be a fun thing, yeah

Altho, maybe it's just me and you can think of it whatever you want, but I think it's frustrating that usually the people who hardly ever come here at all, seem to win. Call me jealous, I don't care, but I just think it's not fair as they don't contribute to the DUBSpirit here.

Sure, they are a member and therefor have every right, but it just doesn't seem fair that people who post once a year, or who are only seen online around the contest, are aloud to enter....

and i get gerties point, partially agree, but when excluding people who almost never post makes it hard to get new people to join.

But yea, maybe try and lure some new competition from lb.com, since its back we may as well use it right? :P i know some people who will probebly join, although they are hypers like me :P so be warned XD

This is gonna sound predictable, but I'd probably go on the same trip my brothers and I took last year. Two weeks of Walt Disney World in Orlando. Although now I'd take em around March/April, before it gets too humid and no daily thunderstorms. Oh and I'd take Clint along, we'd stay in one of the prettiest hotels, the Animal Kingdom Lodge. No ordinary room but a villa, so we don't all have to stay in the same room for two weeks and so Clint and I can have sex LOL

New Zealand, cos it looks awesome, as soon as I can and I would do everything I could there.
South Africa, soon as possible, so I could go in a cage with Great White Sharks.
USA anytime, just because I not been there.
OK this list could get long yet, Japan, Germany, Red Square, ok I am stoppin now I cant pick lol

Question for Thursday, 14th May 2009

If you read the news on the main page posted by J Dub some days ago, you will know that he's thinking of changing the blog section...
Do you want to keep the blogs, or do you think it has run its course and J should not waste time, energy and probably money to get a new blog software?

The blog software is an absolute bitch and seems to conflict with everything so I think the blog software will probably go altho I'm sure another one will probably pop up lol

I deleted mine some time ago so it doesn't make much of an influence, however, maybe before making such decition he should see if the blogs are being used regularly or not and how many people use them, and like Tar said, if the blogs go people should be warned to copy the posts.

Question for Tuesday, 19th May 2009

As you know there are 4 basic elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air. The western zodiacs are also divided into these 4 categories, but regardless of that -

Which of the 4 elements do you think represents you most and why?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009

I once read a book about Aquarians and it said that I'm Air. Which is weird cause you'd think I'd be water but nope... According to Wiki: "Air personalities tend to be kind, intellectual, communicative, social, and helpful."

Sounds about right

Daily Question for the 6th June 2009

Have you voted/going to vote for the European Parlament? If so, which party do you think will win?

I'm going to vote for the European Parlament this sunday and I think that one of the oposition parties will win. ATM the party in charge here is the Socialist Party and I think they have been having a crappy policy so ... that's the party I know I won't vote. The Social Democrats are almost the same as the Socialist so won't vote for them aswell ... we portuguese want a change, but we'll see how it goes sunday :)

In case you're confused/undecided you can always check this site http://euprofiler.eu/ . It will make your profile and see which parties are close to your political views :)

is anyone else worried about parties (is that really the correct word?) like the British 'BNP', the Dutch 'PVV' and the Austrian 'FPÍ' being so successful in this election (or Berlusconi still getting the most votes DESPITE everything)?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: J Dub on June 08, 2009, 12:20:04 PM
See these type parties confuse me as to their purpose in Europe based on what they stand for, does it mean if elected they wont turn up! or they will pull out to prove a point!

Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Gertie on June 09, 2009, 07:59:02 PM
I think that most ppl here voted for the PVV because they are fed up with the way our current government is acting about Europe. Yeah sure, we are Europeans but we are our countries residents first. I don't see myself as a European, I am Dutch and the way people are trying to convince everyone that Europe is our friend and future is just wrong. Collaborations and things like that are great for the economy, but we shouldn't forget about the country we live in and that comes first in my opinion.
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Anokas_Ritolas on June 09, 2009, 09:49:37 PM
to be honest I'm not really that concerned about the winning parties. what concerns me is that in some countries almost half (or even more than half) of the population didn't vote, for instance, here in Portugal 60% of the population didn't vote. that's quite bad on a continent that claims to be democratic
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Gertie on June 10, 2009, 07:32:34 AM
Just goes to show that most people don't think Europe is all that important... Only 37% of the ppl here voted, which was even lower than they expected.

Seems its not as harsh as it was so far, because of my work and high contact with a lot of people I am high risk to get it, I make all the people I work with wash hands all the time and I do so too, Also now carry antiseptic hand wash whereever I go to help a little, but accept the fact that I will get it at some point.

Not worried, eventhough the first person died from it in europe the past weekend if remember correctly. Its mainly ppl who had direct contact with mexicans that die from  it and people with minimal defense system...its called different lol.

And if it will evolve, which will happen at some time like with all the other deceases, we'll see it when it happends. See what happends when it happends, thats my view on it :)

I have to brush my teeth & drink a HUGE glass of water first thing.  Then as soon as I'm dressed & putting my shoes on, the dogs are whining to out.  Then I feed them & take them out again before work.  Wee lil needy bastards they are LOL!

Question for Tuesday, 21st July 2009

Has the internet become the most important source for any kind of news for you? How much do blogs and social network sites affect your opinion (for example whether or not you want to see a film, buy a cd, what you think of politicians etc)?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: J Dub on July 21, 2009, 10:45:18 AM
I do read information and its great for reviews and knowin more whats goin on, yet for main news national and local I wait to hear about it on the TV then maybe find out more online. The net does have an influence for me on what to listen to and watch at times, well more so encourages me to take a look anyway.

Question for Thursday, 23rd July 2009

This morning I woke up convinced it was Friday and I have to remind me constantly that it's in fact THURSDAY. I keep thinking I have to do stuff I normally do on Fridays and then have to tell myself NO, it's THURSDAY.
Does that ever happen to you? If yes, does it make the whole day a little bit more difficult, does it throw you off a bit?

As a matter of fact, I've had the days wrong pretty much any day of the week so far! I feel as if it's Saturday, but it isn't.... Yesterday I thought it was Thursday when it was Wednesday, Tuesday felt like Monday and so on...

But not like your way.

Its doesn't throw the whole day off for me, but I certainly wake up in a panic!

For example this last saturday I woke up and jumped out of bed because I had overslept.... er... but I don't work saturdays! *slaps forehead*

Probably not coz I'd proably end up getting my head kicked in
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009

Funny you should ask.... We were shopping the other day and there was a girl walking in front of us with a jacket on with all the tags on it showing. We confronted her and she got red as a beet root and her friend started to panic. We didn't know where they shoplifted and it seemed futile to call the police for it.

Today however, I found several yanked off tags here and there at work so the items were obviously stolen. It really threw me off and I'm still wondering who it was cause I'd give them a piece of my mind.

I wouldn't report them, but I'd tell 'em how shitty it is & guilt them in to putting it back :)

I saw a kid shoplifting once and he was even trying it on with my bag (I'm not gay honest, its got manly things in it, like spanners and... er... snails and stuff), so I grabbed him by the neck and shoved him face first into a display knocking it over.

The staff came over to see what he was doing amongst a pile of DVD's and found the stuff he was attempting to steal in the first place.

So yeah. I am a mutha fucking vigilante  :police:

Question for 17th August, 2009

What do you think of body hair? Do you think women should always have shaved legs/arm pits/other bits? What about men, should they shave their chest, arm pits, legs etc? Or don't you mind body hair at all?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Gertie on August 17, 2009, 09:38:46 AM
Specially in the summer, I think it's mandatory for women to shave everything that could be seen in public. It's only considerate to the people around you, cause no one wants to see big chunks of armpit hair.

I like hairy men, just as long as their back is as smooth as a baby's back side. Armpit hair is ok, just as long as it's short enough, I don't wanna be able to braid a rug out of it.

Totally agree with that.

About men, it depends of the "Hairy level". If it is not the Amazonia Forest -especially on the chest-, that's ok. Should they shave everywhere ? It depends. For example, i dont like men with shaved armpits. But it shouldn't be "long". If there's something i cannot stand at all, is hairy back. Got shudders by thinking it. And it is not 'cause of the fan right behind me...

I defo agrea with the summer thing for woman there is nothing worse then a woman with hairy armpits or legs  just looks shite

Men   dont mind a little chest hair legs dont bother me at all or armpits  but   hairy back is a huge no no   thats just gross

Nope, thank God we don't celebrate Halloween here (yet). Ok sure, the whole dress up thing and having a party is fun, but it's not we are not used to celebrating it. It's not Dutch and I hope it will never be. Keep it where it's at, we're not forcing other countries to take over Queen's Day either (not that anyone is making us celebrate it but it seems to get more more popular here for all the wrong reasons).

Yeah already made plans about where we're gonna celebrate it. It does seem like it's far away but it's only ten more week till the end of the year. We don't do presents for Christmas so don't have to go shopping. I can't wait for all the festivities to start, December is without a doubt my favourite month of the year.

I actually have been purchasing things here & there.  Mostly stuff I find on sale.  Not for the kids, because there's no where to hide shit in my house without them finding it.  GAH I HATE X-MAS!!!

My siblings and I always get together for Christmas Eve dinner and we take turns on hosting it. This year we'll be at the younger of my two brothers' place. We do the 'secret Santa' thing so each of us only has to buy one small present (nephew + niece normally want money lol), and we wait until midnight to exchange those.
I used to really really hate Christmas, because it meant 3 days of being with family NON-STOP, but now that it's only Christmas Eve dinner it's ok. Normally ignore everything else around it and actually enjoy the lights in the town now :)
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009

I don't celebrate it and have not for many years as some of you may know.

I do however get gifts for thoes that its important to and cards, but not in anyway moved by gifts and in fact find myself ever more offended by them as I would rather people spent money on themselves or the people who are imprtant such as their kids and the like.

I do however cook on christmas day and don't mind it and tend to have a drink or 7, but for me if i want to spend time with people I wont wait for 1 day a year and bullshit it, I have over 300 other days I can do the same :)

Question for Friday, 27th November 2009

I read this article (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20091117/od_uk_nm/oukoe_uk_babynames) about the meanings of unusual names, and it made me think:
Do you know where your name stems from and what it means? If you have (or want to have) children, what made you choose the names you gave (will give) them?

My name is a short for Gertrude, which I think is a German name and means adored warrior  :D

I've always loved the following boy names:
Christophe - meaning 'he who holds Christ in his heart'
Levi - means 'united - as one'
Elijah - meaning 'the Lord is my God'

Girl name:
Marie (but only in combination with my mother's name Ellen, so I'd probably name her MariŰlle) - 'Wished-for child, rebellion, bitter'

I've always had more with boy names than girls, weird. Maybe I don't see myself having girls :-\

I actually have 2 first names ... but I'm just going to use Rita

By what I know it has south european origins and is considered a diminuitive and a latin form of Margaret (Margarita, Marguerita, etc.) which means pearl in greek

I read somewhere that Rita in Sanskrit (one indian language) means true/rigtheous

Other names I like are:

Genevieve = "White wave" in Old German or "Of the race of women" in Celtic
Sofia = "Wisdom" in Greek
Maria = "Bitter" in Hebrew
Patricia = "Noble" in Latin

Ethan = "Strong, firm, impetuous" in Hebrew
Patrick = "Noble" in Latin
Alex (Alexander) = "Defending men" in Greek
Nuno = "Ninth" in Latin

Question for Tuesday, 15th December 2009

Are you 'vocal' when you drive in your car? Do you shout at other drivers when you think they're doing something wrong? Or are you the one being yelled at/insulted?
Title: Re: Daily Question for 2009
Post by: Gertie on December 15, 2009, 10:57:18 AM
Well I guess my answer to this doesn't really count as I'm not the one driving but I can be vocal when someone screws up or is driving like an asshole.

I used to be quite anal (!) and somehow think it was my duty to tell everyone if they made a mistake by blasting on my horn (!) whenever I saw, for example, someone awkwardly attempting a tricky maneouver in a back alley (!) or something.

But now, I just think 'screw it', if people want to drive like idiots, then I let Darwin's theories take care of them. As long as I am driving safely and can avoid any danger, that's all that matters to me now.

(am I getting old?!)
